Distribution underway for National Tree Planting Day 2014

The distribution of seedlings to mark this year's observance of National Tree Planting Day (NTPD) has commenced at all Forestry Department nurseries and select offices across the island.

On this the 12th observance of the day, the Agency is focusing on the role of trees in mitigating the negative effects of climate change. This year's observance is taking place under the theme: "Adapting to Climate Change...Secure our future, plant a tree today".

The annual observance is usually the first Friday in October and is October 3 this year. Everyone is being encouraged to join the Agency in observing the day and contributing to improving the island's environment and forest cover by planting trees. "We are ensuring that it is easy for everyone to participate because we are giving away tree seedlings to interested organisations, groups and persons to ensure that everyone has some trees to plant this tree planting day," Marilyn Headley, CEO& Conservator of Forests said.

She encourages persons to get their trees early so that everyone can participate.
