The proposed Dolphin Head National Park is an area of high botanical diversity, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical and recreational value. Located approximately thirty miles away from Negril and thirty miles away from Montego Bay, The proposed Dolphin Head National Park would be an expression of Jamaica's commitment to protecting its environment and resource that are of recognized national importance and will seek to engender more productive use of privately owned lands on a sustained basis with benefits for local residents. The area was assigned Priority 1- High Ecological Value in the Green Paper "A System of Parks and Protected Areas ". The wet limestone forest ecosystem of the Dolphin Head Area has regional and global significance with respect to species biodiversity and is a clearly defined center of endemism having over 32% plant endemism in a 3,000 acre area.
