FOREST CONSERVATION FUND

CALL FOR CONCEPT NOTES

The Oversight Committee of the Forest Conservation Fund (FCF) is inviting interested local or regional NGOs, CBOs and non-profit organisations involved in environmental, forestry or natural resource conservation activities in Jamaica to submit proposals for grant funding. Funding will be awarded for Short – term (up to three years) and Long – term projects (more than 3 years) to undertake approved activities that will contribute greatly to the conservation and expansion of Jamaica’s forest resources.

Grants for Long - term projects in 2008 must be in one of the following priority sites:

  • Southern portion of the Blus and John Crow Mountains - Yallahs watershed
  • Cockpit Country
  • Rio Cobre Watershed
  • Hope Watershed

The main areas of focus for the Call in 2008 will include:

  • Establishment of forest cover:
    • Reforestation;
    • Rehabilitation of denuded land; and
    • Conservation and protection of existing forest cover.
  • Scientific Research on:
    • Propagation of native forest species
    • Mangroves

Application forms may be collected at the offices of the Jamaica Protected Areas Trust / Forest Conservation Fund, The Nature Conservancy or any office of the Forestry Department island wide. Forms are also available at the link below. Enquiries can be made to the FCF office.
